UNLV Nurse Camp 2024 Registration is Open! The UNLV School of Nursing offers Nurse Camps as an opportunity for high school students from Nevada and beyond to experience what a career in nursing might look like. During each week-long session, students learn important skills including CPR and Stop the Bleed, participate in roundtable discussions with experienced nurses and nursing students, and have the opportunity to see nurses in action at University Medical Center. During this time, we are also excited to welcome the Nurse Camp students to the Clinical Simulation Center at our Shadow Lane campus. While our hope is that students choose to pursue an education at UNLV School of Nursing, our larger goal is to build a passion for healthcare in our city's youth that will benefit our community for years to come.

Should Nursing Skills be Learned on the Job or in Nursing School? My question “Should Nursing Skills Be Learned on the Job?” As a Health Equity Education Coach, I help academic nurse leaders bypass the trial & error of common mistakes in teaching equity, diversity and inclusion so that students are prepared for the rigor of practice. Thanks for joining this conversation today. It is the season of the Nurse! We celebrate nurses for all of the amazing ways we enrich healthcare. Lets celebrate from the nursing student all the way up to the Chief Nurse Officers. All of our work counts and matters. This month I want to focus in on nursing students. I don’t know if we give them enough attention, but from what I am seeing, we can do better. Recently, nursing students have shared with me that feel that they upon leave nursing school they are not getting as much skills training as they need. Do you think we should focus more on teaching skills in nursing school or on the job? Share your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/e4d9Qidn

One of the keys to addressing the nursing shortage is increasing nursing program capacity and to do that requires more nursing faculty. Findings from the 2022 FCN Nursing Education Report indicated a critical barrier to faculty recruitment in Florida is a limited applicant pool. To address this issue, the Florida Center for Nursing has developed a continuing education activity, "Shaping the Future: Becoming Nursing Faculty," to discuss the role of nursing faculty. This program is free for all nurses licensed to practice in the State of Florida! The goal is to inform nurses of the roles and responsibilities of nursing faculty.Click the link below for more information and to register for the program. flcntr.org/nursefaculty

There is a real shortage of Registered Nurses (RNs)! Nursing educators must do whatever they can to increase the number of RNs in the workforce. As an RN and a Nursing Professor, I understand how rigorous nursing school can be. Therefore, I've written a book to help brand-new nursing students succeed. The Nurse's ROCK! Head-to-Toe: The New Nursing Student Guidebook is a spiral-bound book designed to fit in a backpack and is an excellent companion resource for a new nursing student orientation or class. Also, it can be carried throughout the nursing school experience as a quick reference.

The reality is startling.People have dreams of being a nurse. There’s is a nursing shortage.Half the qualified candidates won’t gain admission because they’re simply isn’t enough space available. So what happens to the candidates that get a coveted spot in nursing school? One in four will either drop out or fail out of the program.Let’s start by offering support to the students who demonstrated the ability to be a nurse and increase the attrition. The mission is simple:To provide HUMAN RESOURCES to diverse students in accelerated nursing programs.

What is your big reason you became a nurse? Virginia Avenel Henderson(1897–1996)Henderson would become known as the “First Lady of Nursing” for her development of a theory of nursing that became fundamental to nursing education. As shestated, “The unique function of the nurseis to assist the individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities contributing to health or its recovery (or to peaceful death) that he would perform unaided if he had the necessary strength, will or knowledge. And to do this in such a way as to help him gain independence as rapidly as possible.”She undertook the revision of a nursing text—Textbook of the Principles and Practices of Nursing—and the resulting work became a core text in hospital nursing schools across America. In addition, she oversaw the compilation of a four-volume reference guide to nursing research papers published between 1900 and 1960, called theNursing Studies Index. For her pioneering work as a nurse educator, public health nurse, researcher and theorist, Henderson was inducted into the American Nurses Association Hall of Fame and awarded the Christiane Reimann Prize by the International Council of Nurses. As you read this, consider how your nursing career can influence all the people you interact with, whether they are fellow students, other nurses, your patients, or your community. What would you like to teach to patients or your colleagues?
